About the Orthodox Christian Church
The Orthodox (literally "right-teaching") Christian Church traces its founding back to the time of Christ and the apostles, who laid the groundwork for the church that the Lord set out in the Great Commission—to “make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20).
Today the Orthodox Church continues to hold fast to the biblical, doctrinal, and worship traditions established in the first centuries of Christianity and guided by the Holy Spirit. These timeless teachings and traditions have been lived anew by successive generations of Orthodox Christians for nearly two millennia.
Currently there are about 200 million Orthodox Christians worldwide, stretching from the eastern Mediterranean where St. Paul first preached the gospel to every continent. The United States is home to over one million adherents of the Orthodox faith.
